The "over the hump" show for myself (#10 of 19), and this one was quite the doozie.
I got to re-acquaint myself with the inimitable Sharp from the message boards (it'd been 7+ years), and courtesy of the kind-hearted TMS "crew", a soundboard patch was obtained for both soundcheck and the show.
Of course the soundboard of the show disappeared from the flash card when I tried to rename it thru the card reader on my less-than-a-year old laptop, but that's a talk show (and recovery program) for another day.
They had a pretty solid crowd for a small-market show (an easy 400, maybe more), and between "Black Coffee", "Waitin' Guilty", and "Grows A Rose" as 'rarities', and then RIch's 1-2 punch of "Which Way Your Wind Blows" and "Ides Of Nowhere" (though played an hour apart), this show was a great "send off" for myself before the November shows.
Even the *only* song I didn't care for in September, "Girl From A Pawnshop", was much improved from then. Last month, John's phrasing seemed to be off, and it was more like he was shouting vs. singing the lyrics...this time, listening for the same, he was not. Maybe still not "nailed it" level, but there was improvement for sure.
Great staff as well at The Castle Theater, easy to work with and cool people.
Yeah, the "adjective" bank is a bit dry, but trust me, you'll want to hear this show before the matrix comes. And the sync'd vids.
Get yourself reacquainted with the Rich/Marc sound, as they seem to gel and mesh better with each and every show.
Speaking of 'show', show Dennis some love...you cats are getting this in yer ears with a less-than-24-hour-turnaround. That's pretty amazing, considering I live in Alaska, am visiting various states, and he lives in Canada.
I'm headed home on Monday to fuck off, before the band hits their final stride in November.
The plane ticket is already paid for, and a few hotels have already been booked.
It's ON like Donkey Kong, Sean John and Billabong!!!!
speaking of BONG...
